Frequently Asked Questions

Wastewater from your home flows into a tank where solids settle to the bottom and grease floats to the top. The liquid in between - called effluent - travels out to a drainfield, where the Hill Country soil does the rest, naturally filtering and treating it underground. A well-cared-for system out here can easily last 20 to 30 years.

Most households need a pump-out every 3 to 5 years. Think of it like rotating tires on your truck - simple, routine maintenance that saves you from a much bigger headache down the road. Larger families or smaller tanks may need it more often. When in doubt, give us a call and we'll take a look.

Toilet paper only, y'all. Even products labeled "flushable" - wipes, paper towels, feminine hygiene products - don't break down in a septic tank and will cause clogs. Keep it simple and your system will thank you.

Grease, cooking oils, and fats should go in the trash - not down the sink. The same goes for household chemicals, paint, medications, and antibacterial soaps. These disrupt the natural bacteria your system depends on to break down waste. If it's not water or biodegradable, keep it out.

It sure can. When the Hill Country gets a good soaking, your drainfield can become saturated and slow down. Try to avoid running the washing machine or dishwasher during and right after heavy rain. Keep roof drains and gutters directed away from your drainfield area too.

Keep an eye - and nose - out for slow or gurgling drains, sewage smells inside or outside your home, soggy ground near your drainfield, or unusually bright green patches of grass over the tank area. These are your system asking for help. Don't wait - call us before a small fix turns into a big one.
